Holding on to Hand Grenades We're happy to announce that The Beatings' very own E.R. has released his first solo record, This Conspiracy Against Us on our own Midriff Records. If you haven't been over to the Midriff site in a while, you should check it out. A bunch of new artists have cropped up on our roster, and there are mp3s a-plenty. We're also happy to mention several Beatings-related side projects, including E.R. and the New Jerseys, La Faccia Brutta, and Get Help. We The Beatings ourselves are working on a new record for 2007, so there is much going on behind the scenes. In the meantime, we have an upcoming Show to speak of, and while we're on the topic of mp3s, we also have a plethora posted here. Enjoy.
Happy new year one and all. It seems like only yesterday, but a scant year ago we were all in a tizzy preparing for the release of Holding on to Hand Grenades, which has made a mention in a few end-of-year lists, including a #27 spot at one of our most-favoritest radio stations in the whole world, WMBR. Take that, Mogwai! Here are a few others who have made our own bestest of 2006:
We're leaving soon for a short tour around the Midwest. We haven't been out in a while and we hear the leaves have turned. Check out the Shows page for all the info.
The Boston Phoenix has posted an exclusive mp3 on their On the Download blog, from our tour earlier this year. The song is called Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained, and was recorded at the Zebra Lounge in Bozeman, MT by the masterful Chuck Goodwin. Please give it a listen, won't you?
"Don't Flake Now", an interstitial track from Holding on to Hand Grenades, has been featured in Episode 17 of MTV's The Real World: Key West. So if you have cable, we're coming over. We hope you will join us across the land as we strain our ears to hear our melody over the dramatic din. In other news, we found a lovely blog saying some nice things about us, got some October touring plans in the works, and are readying some special mp3s for release on the site, so please stay tuned.
The Northeast Performer June issue features none other than your own The Beatings on its cover. Thanks to C.D., Anthony and Kerianne, who put the article together. Be sure to check out the NEP's Myspace page for an exclusive stream of Villains from our latest record. It's so exclusive, even *we* don't have it on our site. What the frick?
We’d like to thank everyone for their support during the release of Holding on to Hand Grenades, a frenzied period which took us across the country for a month, and once again into the welcoming arms of the DC Azzaras; the boilermaking Bozemanians; the ultra-cool warmth of the KEXP studios; the overwhelming youthful exuberance and hospitality of R. Cosenza and his Scourge of the Sea, not to mention the new discovered country that is quickly becoming The Beatings favorite place to drive 24 hours to get to, Texas. Amidst all the tomfoolery and foofaraw, Holding on to Hand Grenades hit a chart peak of #9 on the KEXP playlists, did some damage on the CMJ 200, and cracked the Insound Top 25, all of which we still get a little giddy thinking about. Sigh. When’s the next tour? Soon. In the meantime, we’ve posted a bunch of new mp3 files from our forays into the grand U.S.A., and we’ll get around to putting back up some pictures as we continue to restructure the site. Much thanks to the elusive and enigmatic Theodorefaron for continually posting Beatings press on our Message Board, most of which we have co-opted and added to our site, like we found them ourselves. One must think there is an irrational exuberance to this poster. And in some other news, we will be playing a show with Boston noise-rock greats Kudgel, who will be reuniting briefly to celebrate an album release on Midriff Records. Check out the Shows page for all the information on that. And last but not least, The Beatings’ own E.R. is one of the select Boston musicians featured now and again in the new Mission of Burma documentary, Not a Photograph. He disses Moby. It’s pretty rad.
Holy crap. We have been invited to perform at KEXP in Seattle during our big-ass tour this month. We'll be playing live at high noon PST, on Feb 16. The people at KEXP have also had some nice things to say about our record, and you can read that here. Also, the Washington Post ran a review of the new album in anticipation of the tour kickoff in DC this week. And the Denver Post also ran a review in anticipation of...well, we don't know. The Denver Post. They're just good people. Also, The Beatings and some title dissertation were the subjects of a feature on the fine Podcast Dailysonic. And another Blogcritic has posted a review. And away we go.
Thanks to everyone who appeared Thursday at our CD Release Show in Boston, to everyone who listened to us on WBCN, and to everyone who took a left hook in ER's kitchen Saturday night. What this means, of course, is that our new album, Holding on to Hand Grenades is officially out there. We're getting ready for a big tour and another big show in New York this weekend, in reverse order. And our newest, bestest friends at Blogcritics had something to say about the new album. Happy reading.
We'd like to thank everyone that came out to Great Scott for the CD Listening Party, and especially thank Carl and the Allston Plan for making it possible. The Plan is building a solid rep for bringing great music to Boston, and we're sure glad they're on our side ... we've seen what happens when Carl gets mad. That tulip bed will just never be the same. Oh, and while we're on the topic, we can't resist posting a few more nice nods in anticipation of our big shindig tomorrow night...did we mention we're releasing an album? The Boston Globe just published a lovely article on us. Check it out here. And in traditional fashion, the kids at Boston's Weekly Dig are among the first to publish a review. Happy New Year. We've posted a flurry of tour dates to the Shows page. And if you haven't heard, we'll be having a CD Listening Party and a CD Release Show in Boston. For what, you ask? Why, our new album entitled Holding on to Hand Grenades produced by none other than Paul Q. Kolderie. The album has already received some attention, including a nice review from our friends at Magnet Magazine. |
